What do you do at LPS?
My main role at LPS is the art teacher. I teach students from both middle and high school. I try to help every student find their love of creativity and self expression. I am also the After School Coordinator and create the yearbook for the Middle School.
Where were you before you came to LPS?
Last year was my first year at LPS as the Art Teacher but that was not my first role at LPS. About 9 years ago I taught Performing Arts for five years before taking a break to work on cruise ships with my husband (a job I held for 10 years prior to my time at LPS.)
What is your most memorable student experience or favorite teaching moment?
Anytime a student says to me that they used to hate art but now they love it. I want to show every student that art is all around them and each and every one of us has some artistic talent inside of us! I love helping students discover their inner artist.
What is your personal philosophy?
I heard a quote once when I was in High School that has stuck with me for a while. It is ‘Make people laugh and they will love you forever.’ I think life is too short to be too serious. Focusing on laughter and fun brings us all together and makes life worth living!
What keeps you motivated?
I know it is cliché but the only answer is the students. They are all so hilarious and crack me up everyday. It is hard to lose motivation when you are having so much fun at work!
What is the last book you read?
Lately I have been reading a lot of Stephen King books. I love all things spooky and I love how long they are so I can be immersed in the world of the book for a long time.
What shows are you currently binge watching?
I’m always binge watching a show. Watching television is one of my favorite things to do! Currently I’m binging Chicago Fire by myself and Castle with my husband.
What's one thing you couldn't live without?
Travel! I love nothing more than trips and vacations. Getting to travel the world, meeting new people, seeing new things, experiencing new cultures is the most rewarding thing and I feel so lucky to have gotten to travel so much in my life.
Where is the best place you've traveled to and why?
What a tough question! I have been to over 70 countries so narrowing it down to one is quite tough. Antarctica is like nothing I have ever experienced before, Thailand is a ton of fun and has the most amazing people, Croatia and Bermuda are places where every time I go back I discover something new and Iceland is the best place to go for an adventure… I could go on all day but those would be my top five! If you ever need travel tips be sure to come to me!
Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
I love everything Zombies… Books, Movies, Comics, TV Show… if it has a zombie in it I can’t get enough of it!
