MCAS Update

03 May 2021 10:56 AM | Anonymous

Testing for grades 5-10:

MCAS testing begins next week with our 10th grade students. We are asking that all students get a good night sleep and eat breakfast. They will have the opportunity to take a snack break in their testing room in which they can order breakfast from the cafeteria or bring their own snack. Please do not schedule any appointments on testing days to ensure smooth testing sessions. Please reach out to Gretchen Petersen at gpetersen@learningprep.org with any questions.

Class of 2022:

Commissioner Riley sent out communication last week that the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education voted to approve modified competency determination (CD) requirements for students in the class 2022 in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics.

"For students in the class of 2022, the CD in ELA and mathematics would be awarded upon district certification that the student earned full credit for a relevant course aligned to the appropriate curriculum framework in that subject matter, and has demonstrated competency in that subject.

The recommended modification would allow students in the class of 2022 to receive their CD by earning full credit in an approved course and demonstrating competency in that subject, in lieu of earning a qualifying MCAS score."

Students in the class of 2022 (11th graders) are not required to participate in MCAS testing this spring, but they can choose to do so to qualify for these awards: John and Abigail Adams Scholarship and the Stanley Z. Koplik Certificate of Mastery . They may also choose to wait until the next testing opportunity in fall 2021 to take the tests and attempt to qualify at that time.
