Goals & Services

Unlike other students, LPS students have not developed compensatory strategies to substitute for their poor language abilities. LPS helps them remediate their language disabilities and teaches them strategies for learning and socialization that enable them to reach their maximum potential. At LPS, the curriculum is specifically designed for language-impaired students; it does not have to be adjusted as in public schools to fit these students. Students are, therefore, not singled out as different.

Students at LPS are grouped in classes by their skill level. Each can work at his or her own level and achieve at his or her own speed. In this supportive and highly interactive environment, students who once thought of themselves as failures become active learners and risk takers and come to believe in themselves.

Students coming to the LPS High School Program from other schools generally have more entrenched and extensive problems. Therefore, the goal of the High School Program is to further develop academic skills (reading, math, language and pre-vocational readiness) to prepare students for further job development or continuing educational programs.
