After School Programs (EMS)

Learning Prep School offers After-School Programming Monday through Thursday from September through May each year for all grade levels. On a daily basis, students have the opportunity to take part in both academically and socially enriching groups. Depending on the grade of the students, the programs available vary. However, all grade levels have the opportunity to join groups that focus on sports, creative arts, social development, and academic enrichment. For example, recent after-school programs include: Girls and Boys Basketball, Cooking, Art, Woodworking, Sewing, Theater, Scrapbooking, iMovie, MCAS Tutoring in Math, and Fitness. After-school programs are very popular with the students, and many sign up for more than one club. Approximately 150 different students participate in the various clubs each week, with many students participating in multiple clubs. Students are strongly encouraged to work o n their social and communication skills in all after-school programs. Learning Prep School staff run these groups and use this time to assist students in improving their nonverbal and verbal skills in a safe learning environment. In addition to improving social and communication skills, after-school programs give students an opportunity to foster new interests and talents, while gaining self-confidence.

Students enrolled in after-school programming report to their program at the end of the school day. They remain in their groups, engaged in activities, for the 90 minute duration of the session. Often, school communities provide transportation for students’ after-school programming on the basis of need for further academic and/or social enrichment outside of the regular school day. If communities do not provide transportation or pay for programming, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to arrange transportation and submit payment for the student. Some scholarships are available from the Learning Prep School Parent Council on the basis of financial need. After-School Program applications are now posted on-line in the beginning and middle of the school year, offering the students at least two times to sign up for different groups.

Learning Prep School offers several After School Programs for the 2009-2010 school year, available for all Elementary, Middle, 8th Grade & High School students where indicated. Please take time to review all of the forms, as after school programming can be a wonderful addition to your child’s education. After reviewing the information for your child’s level, check off the activities in which your child will be participating, and return all necessary documents to the Administration Office, Attn: Patty Griffith, including:

  • Application
  • Emergency/Transportation Information Form – Fully Completed
  • Program payment no later than January 13, 2010

For all groups there is a maximum number of students allowed, so all paperwork must be in on time. No child may begin the After School Program without submitting the Emergency/Transportation Fact Form and payment in full.

After School Programs take place from 2:30pm until 4:00pm on designated days. The After School Programs will NOT run on early release days. Snow days will NOT be made up or refunded. Parent Council provides a limited number of scholarships for students in need of assistance for payment of these programs. Students in need of assistance are eligible for ONE scholarship per term only. If you are interested in applying for either a partial or full scholarship for any programs, please complete the enclosed Scholarship Form and return it to Patty Griffith at the address above. All scholarship applications will be held in strict confidence and you will be notified promptly regarding the status of your scholarship application. If you are willing or able to sponsor a child for a day, a week, or even a session, checks can be made payable to “Learning Prep School”. Please note on the check that it is for sponsoring a child to attend After School Programming.

Please Note: You will NOT receive confirmation of your child’s enrollment in an After School group. You will be contacted only if there is a question about your application, if payment was not received, if the group your child is interested in is already full, or is cancelled due to low enrollment.

If you have any questions in regards to the After School Program or the related paper work, please contact Gina Crannell at 617-965-0764 x501 or at GCrannellLPS@gmail.com. Once the groups have been determined, the After School Program Rules and Policies Guidelines will be provided to the parents of students enrolled.

Thank you and we look forward to a wonderful year of After School Programming!
