Learning Prep administers The Stanford Achievement Test in both Language Arts and Mathematics. We administer the following tests:
Grades
- Intermediate 1: 4.5-5.5
- Intermediate 2: 5.5-6.5
- Intermediate 3: 6.5-7.5
- Advanced 1: 7.5-8.5
- Advanced 2: 8.5-9.5
- Task 1: 9.0-10.0
- Task 2: 10.0-11.0
- Task 3: 11.0- 12.9
Stanford test levels indicate the grade level at which the content, and thus the grade level administration of the test, was originally intended. For example, Intermediate 3 is 6.5-7.5. This means it is designed to be taken by and normed by students in grade six- fifth month through grade 7-5th month using a bell curve. The norms are for either Spring or Fall administration. Originally, they were designed to be taken in the spring, hence the 6.5 rather than 6.0 grade designation.
We are currently phasing in the newer Stanford Ten Edition. The Task Levels we are currently using are still the older Ninth Edition. The newer test has a change in the presentation of material, including use of color, which better supports students with visual tracking issues. The content has been altered to better reflect general changes in curriculum since the Ninth Edition was written and normed.
While much of the test is similar to the older version, there are also changes in the inclusion/exclusion of subtests. (see chart below)
- All levels of Language Arts subtests include Vocabulary, Comprehension, Spelling, Language.
- The Intermediate 1 level includes a Word Study Skills subtests, as does the older Task levels. (Change: No longer included at all levels)
- There is no Listening test for the Task levels. All other levels have this test. (NO Change)
- The Task level breaks down the Language test into Mechanics and Expression. (Change: The newer tests do not.)
- The Mathematics test for Intermediate and Advanced includes two subtests -Problem Solving and Procedures (computation). The Task level only has a single Mathematics score. (NO CHANGES)

As always, the goal of LPS is to use a wide variety of tools to
help us analyze students’ progress and to tailor their educational
plans accordingly. Stanfords are only one part of the picture.
