Pre-Vocational ShopsThe Pre-Vocational and Vocational Shops at LPS are designed to facilitate the development of basic work behaviors, attitudes, and skills. Students participate in a wide variety of hands-on tasks or project-oriented activities and jobs that often provide a direct service for the school. It is hoped that through participation in these shops, students will learn basic job skills and work habits that can be generalized to any task in which they participate (i.e., classroom performance, real jobs outside of school, chores at home, daily life skills, homework, leisure skills and hobbies). We are NOT providing vocational training in a particular area; therefore, your child may be involved in a number of different shops during the school year and through their entire stay at LPS. Specific areas include the following:
These skills are addressed throughout the various shops that are available at LPS which include Graphic Arts, Food Service, Horticulture, and Childcare. The Pre-Vocational and Vocational staff work closely with the Occupational Therapy Department to incorporate any accommodations that may be necessary in order to make the student's experience as successful as possible and to maximize their acquisition of skills. |
