High School Art Program
The goals of the art program are:
- students will demonstrate knowledge of the methods, materials, and techniques unique to the visual arts.
- students will use a variety of materials and media (e.g., crayons, chalk, paint, clay, papers, textiles, and/or yarns).
- students will understand how to utilize various materials and media to produce different visual effects.
- students will create artwork in a variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional media:
- two-dimensional media examples: drawing, painting, and collage.
- Three-dimensional media examples: clay, paper, and found objects for assemblage and construction.
To the best of their abilities, students are expected to:
- explore the range of effects possible within each medium, such as transparent, opaque, wet, dry stippled, and blended.
- create artwork that demonstrates an awareness of the range and purpose of tools such as pens, brushes, markers, etc.
- use the appropriate vocabulary related to the materials, methods, and techniques.
- maintain the tools, materials, created work, and workspace responsibly and safely.
This year, students will work on projects that:
- show their ability to create two-dimensional and three-dimensional works that illustrate knowledge of characteristics of particular
media, materials, and tools.
- explore a single subject through a series of works, varying the medium or technique.
- demonstrate their capacity to make appropriate choices of two-dimensional and three dimensional media, tools, and techniques to
achieved desired effects in specific projects. Identify represent, and experiment with colors, lines, textures, shapes, forms, patters,
symmetry, and space.
